This embellished maxi dress was shown as part of Roberto Cavalli’s Resort 2013 collection (look 32/35). The collection took its cue from fine porcelain, borrowing the patterns and silhouettes of the most luxurious hand-painted vases. This gown is tailored to a floor-sweeping length from pure silk crepe. The bust is composed of a sheer mesh and finished underneath with a strip of quilted satin that crosses the front and back of the gown. The spaghetti straps are tailored from off-white satin and have bra-style clasps for adjustment. Five bands of satin cross the bust forming a cage-like detail. The bottom hem is scalloped, detailed with minute circular cut-outs and trimmed with frayed, off-white lace. As Vogue said of these pieces, they “reward closer inspection” and, up close, the detail achieved by the House of Cavalli is truly astounding. Abstract botanical-inspired forms cover the dress from the bust to just below the hips, formed from intricate, textured embroidery, appliqué fabric and a variety of beadwork patterns. The long crepe skirt has two slits, each framed by scalloped lace and detailed with embroidery and polished white beads. This gown is fully lined in sheer silk-mix crepe. It fastens under the left arm with a hidden tonal zip with branded zip pull and a hook-and-eye clasp. It would make the most stunning wedding dress for a summer bride.
This piece is in excellent condition with no flaws - it still has its original tags attached with spare beads inside. It is 100% Silk and the lining is 80% Polyamide, 20% Silk. It is labelled an Italian size 42, UK 10 or US 6 and would suit sizes smaller too; please double-check our measurements below. The fabric has no stretch.
